Benefits
Employees who work 20 or more hours per week in a qualifying position will be eligible for health benefits through the Knightsen Elementary School District (KESD).
Medical
- Medical benefits can only be added when you first become eligible or during open enrollment (exception made when you have a life qualifying event).
- If you choose to waive your right to medical benefits through KESD, you must complete a waiver form.
-
Knightsen Elementary School District offers various medical plan options through CalPERS. To determine which medical plan or provider is right for you depends on a variety of factors, such as whether you prefer a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or Preferred Provider Organization (PPO); your premium and out-of-pocket costs; and whether you want to have access to specific doctors and hospitals.
We realize that comparing medical plan benefits, features, and costs can be complicated. To help you make a decision, the CalPERS Health Benefit Summary booklet provides valuable information to help you make an informed choice about your medical plan and medical care providers.
Dental & Vision
- Dental and Vision are required for KESD employees working 20 or more hours per week.
- There is a one time option to add spouse or dependents over the age of 5 once you become eligible.
- Dependents under the age of 5 must be added prior to their 5th birthday.
District Contribution/Cap
- Knightsen Elementary School District contributes $768.49 per month to a full time Classified employee's medical premium. The remainder of the premium is paid by the Employee.
- Knightsen Elementary School District contributes $750.00 per month to a full time Certificated employee's medical premium. The remainder of the premium is paid by the Employee.
Cash in Lieu of Medical
Employees, who have alternative medical coverage through a group plan, may opt to waive their medical benefit.
Important facts if you waive coverage:
- Employees who have previously elected to waive medical coverage and would like to enroll in a medical plan may do so only during the Open Enrollment period unless there has been a qualified change-in-status event.
- Enrollment in Cash-In-Lieu may only occur at the time of hire or during the Open Enrollment period. There is no mid-year enrollment for Cash-In-Lieu unless you have a qualified change in status.
- Employees enrolling in Cash-in-Lieu will pay the full cost of the dental and vision monthly premium.
- You must recertify each Open Enrollment Period for Cash-In-Lieu.
